Launched today, Google TV is adding hundreds of new streaming channels to its home screen, all available for free.
The main screen of Google TV is content-first experience, with group recommendations and of course ads too. But now Google is adding another layer to the experience with a significant expansion of the free content on the “Live” tab of Google TV.
First, Google TV expands the selection of free streaming channels offered by other apps. This started with Pluto TV in late 2021. Now, Google TV will integrate free streaming content into its Live tab from Tubi, Plex, and Haystack News. That’s also in addition to content from YouTube TV, Sling TV, and Philo.

Moreover, Google TV also adds original free streaming channels that play directly on the home screen. These channels do not require any apps or accounts outside of your Google account, and are available to all Google TV users in the US. These free channels (known as “FAST” channels) were first reported back in 2021. Based on our previous findings, we knew that the free channels included in Google TV would make up at least 50 of the total 800+ channels, but The actual total is about 80.
We are also launching Google TV built-in free channels that you can watch without downloading or launching any app. In total, you can now browse over 800 premium channels and programs, including news channels from NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX, and hit shows like “Westworld,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and “The Walking Dead.” You’ll also find channels from around the world, with programming in over 10 languages including Spanish, Hindi, and Japanese.
Google says that the content will be available in more than 10 languages and that the free channels will be available via Chromecast and streams from TCL, Sony, Hisense, Philips and other brands. Some of these channels will also be coming to the native Android TV experience “later this year” on eligible devices.
The new channels also come with a redesigned Live tab on the home screen.
