Google releases new ringtones and alerts for Pixel ‘Sound Matters’

With the Pixel 9 series, Google will launch foot A new set of ringtones and alert sounds called “Sound Matters” is now rolling out to older devices.

Sound Matters features “beautiful and diverse sounds of birds singing,” indicating a healthy ecosystem. The sound comes from “a dawn chorus of birds found in remote and wild areas of Botswana and Zimbabwe” in late 2023 “to coincide with the rainy season in southern Africa.” Google worked with an award-winning wildlife sound recorder.

“We didn’t want this to be just another collection of nature sounds. We sought sounds that were deeply meaningful and reflected our natural world, in a positive and thought-provoking way. Sounds that were different from what most people hear every day, whether they live in urban areas or less nature-rich ecosystems.

On your Pixel device, go to Settings > Sound & vibration to find six ringtones and alert sounds in the new Sound Matters collection.

  • Botswana bushveld at dawn
  • Zimbabwe savanna at dawn
  • Limpopo River at dawn
  • Limpopo River at dawn
  • Zimbabwe hills at dawn

There are also four notification sounds:

  • Meyer’s Parrot at dawn
  • Limpopo River at dawn
  • Crested Francolin at dawn
  • African Fish Eagle at Dawn

For everyone else, Google has uploaded a one-hour recording of beautiful nature scenes from Pixel Sound Matters’ Dawn Chorus collection. It will also be available in the Fitbit app. Google cites research showing how “bird sounds and songs can have significant benefits for our mental and emotional health” by reducing stress and anxiety, as well as improving mood.

Google Sounds version 3.1 (642123347) is now out Via Play Store To Pixel 4 and later. This follows the addition of “Gems” last year.
