There are always discussions about the durability of foldable phones. While such questions are legitimate, smartphone companies like Samsung are making efforts to make foldable phones more durable with each passing year. Samsung’s latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, was recently subjected to a durability test by popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything, and the result was on the positive side.
Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything YouTube channel puts the Galaxy Z Flip 5 through the sledgehammer. Speaking of testing, the phone’s screen, which has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, started to show scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper scratches at level 7. This is similar to other smartphones for years now.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is still far from being as rugged as a traditional tablet
The inner screen starts to scratch at level 2, with deeper groves at level 3. This is to be expected since the screen is made of UTG (ultra-thin glass). When the monitors were put through the burn test, after a few seconds, the monitors started to show signs of burn. According to Nelson, users of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 should not press hard while using the internal screen and protect it from coins and keys.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was then subjected to a bend test. The hinge is solid, and surprisingly there was no sign of bending, unlike other foldable phones like the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. Interestingly, Nelson bent the Galaxy Z Flip 5 back several times, and yet the phone worked perfectly. It even spilled dust and dirt on it, and it continued to work without any major issues. So that the device works perfectly.
Overall, the JRE test shows that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a very durable phone, especially when compared to others in the market. The test simulates real-world use, and while the phone looks tough for a foldable phone, it’s still not as rugged as a traditional tablet.
