A group goes to La Tartinerie every Thursday to converse in English and French. A way to improve your language skills.
On Thursday, May 23, the “Free Discussions in English and French” group met. The origins of this meeting go back a long way, at least 20 years.
Martine Burger, a retired teacher, recalls the history of the initiative: “We owe it to Shelley, an Englishwoman, for people who want to improve themselves in both languages”.
This applies to British people living in Ariège, French people wishing to travel or work across the Channel, but also students. The first objective is to improve.
Every Wednesday
In 2023, the group entered into a partnership with the Foix Youth Centre. It was discontinued when the host moved to Toulouse and has not been renewed since.
“We meet weekly, on Thursdays, at 6 p.m., at place 36 in La Tartinere, which we had difficulty finding rooms, which is perfect and friendly Martin Burger.
These meetings will end on June 20. During school holidays and Christmas holidays, there are no chat groups.
Discussion topics are free, “nothing imposed”. Each conversation lasts 45 minutes. On Thursday, May 23, the group had more than 15 participants.
“Beeraholic. Friend of animals everywhere. Evil web scholar. Zombie maven.”
