English from an early age

Pupils from the Senior Kindergarten section visited the James-Joyce Museum for the second time with their teacher, Patricia Vivier-Lamott, Director.

During their first visit, they learned a nursery rhyme in English about colors and continued to learn in class. They were eager to sing it in full to the representatives of the association “James Joyce in Saint-Gérard-le-Puy”, the association responsible for the management and animation of the municipal museum.

Irish-born Marion Byrne, vice-president, and Odile Reverett, secretary, were delighted to hear how enthusiastically the children had recovered their first knowledge of English. An exhibition and sale of highly colorful digital paintings from Italy inspired by Joyce’s major work, Ulysses, created by artist Andy Prisney, served as the starting point for the offering of colors.

The lesson continued with learning a few words about fruits, thanks to a ditty.

Afterwards, the children enjoyed snacks “like James Joyce”, usually Irish sandwiches, vinegar crisps, carrot cakes, lemon curd (lemon cream) and chocolate. Almost everything was tasted and appreciated more or less happily but with great interest.

During renewable visits, the museum will become a familiar place for future primary school students, and they will become good ambassadors for James Joyce, and they will naturally want to discover other places. Culture.
