Donald Glover’s Lando Movie Collection, Not the ‘Star Wars’ Series on Disney+ – Variety

News broke in July that Disney and Lucasfilm had tapped Donald and Stephen Glover to replace Justin Simien as writers for a new “Lando” TV series on Disney+. But not so fast. Lucasfilm confirmed that the project is indeed being developed as a “Lando” movie. diverse. Glover first appeared in the role of young Lando Calrissian in 2017’s “Star Wars” prequel “Solo,” which was a notable box office disappointment for Disney and Lucasfilm.

Stephen Glover first announced news of the “Lando” movie in a recent appearance on Pablo Torre Finds Out, where he told the host: “It’s not even a show… The idea now is to make a movie. Right now, because of the raid, it’s “More like a phone, where all the information is coming in. That’s all the information Steven could provide. Lucasfilm later confirmed the news.”

News first broke that a Lando Calrissian limited series was in the works in December 2020. At the time, “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien was attached to the project. It went out and was replaced by the Glover brothers who developed it as a film. Billy Dee Williams originally played Lando in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Donald Glover revealed in a video interview with GQ magazine in April that he was talking with Lucasfilm about another project centered around Lando in the “Star Wars” universe. “We’re talking about it,” he said. “That’s as far as I can tell without.” [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy is after me.”

“Lando is magic incarnate,” Glover continued at the time. “It’s a kind of maverick, which I don’t think there’s much of anymore. It’s hard to be a smooth talker these days. Where’s the line? And here also lies the danger. How close can you get without tripping over it?”

Glover added: “I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It has to be the right way to do it. Time is money. In the last couple of years, this pandemic has really given people the experience of time… People have realized that Their time is valuable. You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d rather spend time with people I enjoy. This has to be the right thing, and I think it can be. Lando is definitely a person I love spending time with him.”
