The Saints did not rule out Derek Carr for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers, but an injured right shoulder kept him out of Wednesday’s practice.
Carr said he’s taking his situation day by day.
“I’m going to I do everything I can “I’m out there with my guys,” Carr said, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN. “If I can play, I’ll play. If I physically can’t play, I can’t play. But if I’m out there, it means there’s no fear of getting injured again. There’s no fear of that. There’s no fear of being able to help the football team .
The Saints won’t make a decision until the end of the week, giving Carr time to see if he can heal enough to leave.
“He feels better today,” Allen said. “We’ll evaluate him to see where he is tomorrow and hopefully we can get him back there. . . . I’m not ruling anything out.”
Carr said he could play without pitching this week, but he wouldn’t pitch if he thought it would hurt the team. Jameis Winston will start if Carr can’t.
“I’m not saying I don’t need training, and everyone needs reps, but sometimes situations are different, right? And especially during the season, you want as many reps as possible,” Carr said. “There are still things I do.” With the coaches and there are still things to do. . . See where we are at.
“But, if I don’t throw the ball all week — who knows if that’s the case or not — but if that’s the case, I’ll still feel confident on Sunday. . . . I’ll never put the team in a bad place with a roster spot. If I’m there “It means I feel confident that I’m good. I’m solid. It means I’m ready to play, and I can help us win.”
The Saints (2-1) led 17-0 when Carr left on Sunday. They lost 18-17.
Carr was among seven Saints who did not practice Wednesday. Safety Jordan Howden (finger), offensive guard Cesar Ruiz (concussion), cornerback Paulson Adepo (hamstring), tight end Foster Morrow (ankle), tight end Jimmy Graham (rest) and right tackle Ryan Ramczyk (rest) also sat out. On- field work.
