Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, the developer behind this relaxing farming simulator Stardew Valleytakes a different approach towards the game's upcoming 1.6 update release On March 19th. Most developers will probably put together a trailer or make sure to include their update with some highlight clips from a huge publisher. Stardew Valley It's a big enough game at this point that they could probably secure a spot on Nintendo Direct just for their updates if they wanted to. Instead, they tweet through it.
I started a few days ago with the fruitful news of Update for fruit trees, ConcernedApe would occasionally share a lost line of patch notes for the boxed Stardew update 1.6, and the community was devouring every morsel they could get. The day after the fruit trees sent everyone bananas, ConcernedApe followed up with a bigger update that confirmed the long-suspected fan theory that… Harvesting crops in a certain direction was faster Who else? Now, they've confirmed another long-suspected theory: downward sword swings put players at a disadvantage, and the upcoming update will fix that.
According to ConcernedApe, the effect was always intended, as it matches the animation of a downward swing, but apparently it “always bothers them.” The desire was for the swing area of effect to match the animation, but in the years since, their position has shifted to the belief that “the feel of the game is far more important than precise visual fidelity.” Check your stardo Friends, I don't think they can handle that much change.
stardoUpdate 1.6, which is shaping up to be bigger than I think ConcernedApe initially intended, has turned into an opportunity for developers to have fun with the community, deliver much-needed fixes, and secure the future of the game for a long time to come. After all, it was first described as a quality-of-life update for modders, who often keep the scenes around games alive with their own fixes and additions to the existing title, and now it's approaching a mini-expansion, complete with new festival, dialogue, and “secrets.” Although ConcernedApe hasn't shared much on the modding front, it at least appears that they are polishing the game to a good extent before handing it over to modders for an indefinite period of time.
This move makes sense given that stardo1.6's 1.6 update brings a bit of a break from the development of ConcernedApe's spiritual successor to stardew valley, Another relaxing RPG has been called Haunted Chocolatier. Although we don't know much about the game, you can probably expect to hear more about it as development begins after its release. stardo Update 1.6 next week In the meantime, what big change do you think ConcernedApe will announce next?
