This is according to a report from leaker eXtas1s on Computer Forumssuggesting that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be coming to Xbox Game Pass in August 2024. Windows Central sources can confirm this information, meaning Xbox gamers can look forward to embarking on adventures with the Wumpa-seeking bandicoot in just a few weeks.
According to eXtas1s, the new Tony Hawk 1+2 and Spyro Reignited Trilogy will also be released “very soon,” though they can’t confirm that these games will be added in the same month.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a remaster of the original three Crash Bandicoot games—originally developed by then-independent Naughty Dog—that was taken over by Vicarious Visions, a studio known for its remastering efforts that is now part of Blizzard Entertainment under the name Blizzard Albany Team. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was first released on PlayStation 4 in 2017, before being ported to Xbox One, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch in 2018.
This will be the second Activison Blizzard King game to join Xbox Game Pass since Microsoft acquired the gaming company in October 2023. The first, Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo 4, was added to the service in March. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is scheduled to launch on day one on Xbox Game Pass when it launches on October 25, 2024.
Analysis: Slow drip feed
Adding more Activision Blizzard games to Xbox Game Pass would be great, and I’m sure there are a lot of gamers who would be excited about it. While the incredible range of genres Xbox has to offer is unusually comprehensive, family-friendly games are a weak spot that can often be overlooked, so including more family-focused games in the lineup would be a huge boon.
I will say that the rate at which these games are being added to the service is a bit surprising to me. I understand that Microsoft doesn’t want to have one massive wave where everything is added and that’s it, but still, I would have definitely assumed that we would see more games included in Xbox Game Pass by now.
At the current rate, it will be a very long time before Activision’s back catalog is placed on the subscription service alongside the rest of Xbox’s first-party lineup from Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks.
