The condition of an American citizen wounded Sunday after the Lebanese Hezbollah group fired rockets into northern Israel is deteriorating, according to the medical center treating him.
The 31-year-old man was hit by shrapnel in his upper body and was taken to the operating room on Sunday evening local time, the Galilee Medical Center said in a statement.
The center added that two other people were injured by the rocket fire – a soldier and a civilian – and were transferred to the hospital’s surgery department.
The Israeli military said Hezbollah fired dozens of anti-tank rockets and mortars into northern Israel on Sunday, adding that a soldier was lightly wounded and evacuated for medical treatment.
The medical center reported that the two civilians were injured by shrapnel.
The American civilian is in “serious and stable condition,” a medical center spokesperson told CNN earlier.
The center added that “he was admitted to the trauma room, where the medical team anesthetized him and put him on a ventilator.”
CNN has reached out to the US State Department about the injured American.
The Israeli army said it responded with strikes on Hizb allah Military structures.
Hezbollah said in multiple statements on Sunday that it had fired rockets at several Israeli military sites.
This comes after the Israeli military carried out an air strike in northern Lebanon on Saturday that it said killed a senior Hezbollah operative.
