Christian Jacob leaves LR Head to take English lessons in London

Republican Party leader Christian Jacobs, who announced his resignation in early July, will leave the party leadership on Friday July 1, AFP notes. As provided in LR’s bylaws, he will be replaced by the party’s No. 2 Anne Geneverd from Monday.

Christian Jacob, 62, arrived as president of the LR in October 2019, having also given up his deputy for the 4th district of Seine-et-Marne in the last legislative election. After all, he is a replacement for his successor, Isabelle Pericault.

London is the destination for English lessons

Christian Jacob, who celebrated his departure on Thursday at LR’s headquarters, was due to travel to London in July where he will take English lessons, the same source said.

A former mayor of the province, he was first elected in 1995 in the 4th district of Seine-et-Marne, with interruptions between 2002 and 2007, when he became a minister. From 2010 to 2019, when he assumed the presidency of the Republican Party, this Siracuan led the UMP and then the LR group in the National Assembly for nearly nine years.

Laurent Wauquiez was elected after resigning, saying he could not be a presidential candidate due to LR’s (8.5%) appeal to the Europeans.

Cecil Riches, current director of communications, will become LR’s general manager from September. He succeeds Jean-Francois Verdier, who joins his administration. Ms Riches will be replaced by former journalist Marie-Eve Malouins, who previously served as communications officer for Ms Genevaard.
