ChatGPT continues its march through the technology industry as it reaches a new frontier: smartwatches. Fitness brand Amazfit has revealed that it will add generative AI as a feature on its GTR4 device.
search in He recently posted a demo on LinkedIn (Opens in a new tab), ChatGPT will be listed as ChatGenius in the GTR4 menu, and from there, you can ask it whatever you want. The video shows a person asking how they can improve their running performance. Then in just a few seconds, ChatGenius responds with a multi-paragraph answer that you can read in its entirety by rotating the watch face crown. Tap the screen to clear the previous response and you can ask a new question. You can even ask ChatGenius how your day was and it will tell you how many steps you’ve taken as well as your current heart rate.
Other than the demo, there is very little information on how ChatGPT works on the Amazfit GTR4. Other reports (Opens in a new tab) It claims that you can ask general questions like the weather or traffic forecast, just like any other smartwatch. It is also not known which other Amazfit devices will get this feature. The video hints at ChatGPT support depending on the watch model and your location, with the US being the only confirmed region at the time of writing.
We’ve reached out to Amazfit about the availability of ChatGPT support as well as what it can do. Can it, for example, show different types of data or is it limited to just a few things? This story will be updated if we hear back.
First party support
The fact that Amazfit was able to beat the tech giants in adding first-party support for generative AI to a smartwatch is quite an achievement. The closest thing to ChatGPT on something like an Apple Watch is a third-party app called ChatGPT watchGPT for Apple Watch (Opens in a new tab). It works pretty much the same way. You open the app, ask a question, and get an answer in several paragraphs. However, there are some notable differences.
For starters, you have to pay $3.99 to use it while the Amazfit feature is free. But you can “share the result of your interaction” with other people either through text, email or social media messages. It is not known whether or not the GTR4 can do the same at this point. Either way, Amazfit has managed to break boundaries before anyone else. We think it’s only a matter of time before the likes of Apple or Google finally add innovative first-party AI support to their smartwatches. The technology is already in use browsers And search enginesafter all.
