The 42-year-old man was said to have reached the UK with the explosive device. Had to evacuate the airport for a good hour.
On Friday, July 29, at around 4pm, police officers intervened at Sud de France airport, where a shell was found in the suitcase of an English national who was about to join Great Britain. As a safety measure, Montpellier’s demining crews were called in, while the airport was evacuated without panic. According to our information, explosive device experts were able to quickly determine that the shell with its warhead was neutral, when photographs of the device were shown to them from a distance. Normalcy returned to the airport around 5 pm.
In this context, the 42-year-old Englishman who was in possession of the shell was arrested and taken to the police station premises where he was remanded in police custody. It is noteworthy that there is no certificate for neutralizing the explosive device, the forty-year-old man told the police that he bought the shell from a person, thinking that he could bring it with him without causing trouble. The shell was then earmarked for destruction. For his part, Nasi was acquitted on the prosecutor’s decision, which ended the case without further action.
