The news from the bubble on Saturday was mostly negative. One team has won big enough to get out of the bubble at the moment. TCU pinned ninth to Texas Tech 69-66, ending their one-game stay in the bubble. The Horned Frogs play back-to-back games with upcoming Kansas.
- It was the biggest bubble losing on Saturday Loyola Chicago. The Ramblers have been the Missouri Valley Conference class since the fourth round in 2018, but they struggled at the end of the season and lost Saturday in Northern Iowa to finish second in the conference standings. Loyola has gone 8-5 in the last 13 games, losing every third game. It is unlikely that the Ramblers could enter the field as a pilot now because that would require another loss.
- Rutgers He also lost again, this time at home to Wisconsin, which avenged an earlier defeat by the Scarlet Knights. It was the third consecutive loss for Rutgers after that round of four games to enter the competition for a bracket position. Things get a little easier with games in Indiana and Penn State. However, winning these two may not be enough.
- Oregon It came shortly after the season swept the Los Angeles schools, falling home to USC 70-69. The Ducks are the second team out as of this morning and they have road games left with the Washington Schools to finish playing the conference.
- finally, Miami Lost again at home, this time to Virginia Tech. Hurricanes are now 10-5 on their home ground, but a little better 10-4 away from home. You often don’t see bubble bands as good on the road as they are at home.
There are not many bubble games today, but they are all important. American Athletic Conference and Big Ten take center stage.
Note – All references to NCAA tournament selection records and trends refer only to pre-pandemic tournaments. Due to shortened schedules and the relatively small number of non-conference games in 2021, these rankings weren’t reliable enough to be considered.
