Getty Images Bruce Willis’ wife tells paparazzi to stop yelling at him amid dementia diagnosis: Let him get from point A to B safely
Emma Heming Willis, wife of actor Bruce Willis, issued a statement asking the paparazzi to “keep your space” when following the 67-year-old actor, who was recently diagnosed with dementia.
Hemming Willis posted a video to Instagram, recounting a recent incident in which paparazzi tried to talk her husband into during his rare public appearances to meet with a group of friends for coffee in Santa Monica.
“If you’re someone caring for someone with dementia, you know how difficult and exhausting it can be to get someone out into the world and navigate them safely, even to get a cup of coffee,” she said. “Obviously, there’s still a lot of education that needs to be appreciated. So this one goes to the paparazzi and video people trying to get those exclusive rights out of my husband. Just keep your space.”
She continued, “I know this is your job, but maybe just keep your space.” “Please don’t yell at my husband, ask him how he’s doing, whatever. Monsters and yippee-ki-yay – just don’t do it. Give him the space. Allow our family or whoever is with him that day to be able to get him from point A to point B safely.” This is my public service announcement.”
Her statement comes just weeks after the family announced that Willis’s aphasia had progressed to frontotemporal dementia, which is often diagnosed at a younger age than other types of dementia. Symptoms can include personality changes, difficulty speaking, and movement disturbances.
Bruce and Emma have been married since 2009.
