Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and his son Bronny James will have to make adjustments to nicknames as teammates next season.
In a snippet from a new episode of “The Shop” on Uninterrupted, LeBron addresses one of the most anticipated scenarios when playing with his son: Will Bronny be able to call LeBron “Dad” in the locker room, at practice and at games?
“[He] “You can’t call me dad at work,” LeBron said.
Bronny was selected as the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Lakers, where his father, LeBron, is entering his seventh season. Prior to Bronny’s selection, no active father-son duo had played in the NBA at the same time.
“Once we get out of the private facility and the gates close, I can be a father again. [and] “If we get in the car together, I can be a stay-at-home dad,” LeBron said.
LeBron has alternatives to what the 19-year-old might call his father in basketball settings.
“He had the right to call me ‘2-3’ or ‘Bron’ or ‘GOAT’ if he wanted to. It’s up to him.
“We can’t be running down the court, and he’s like, ‘Dad, push the ball up! Dad, I’m open! Dad, come on!'” LeBron said.
James enters his 21st NBA season with the Lakers after agreeing to return to the team on a two-year, $104 million contract that includes a player option through 2025-26 with a no-trade clause.
Bronny agreed to a four-year, $7.9 million deal with a team option in the final year of his contract.
