Billie Eilish was heard talking about TikTokers at the People's Choice Awards.
In a video clip circulating online, the singer had a thing or two to say about the presence of influencers on the show while speaking to Kylie Minogue.
Billie, 22, can be heard telling Kylie, 55, “I think there are some… TikTokers here.”
Just as Billie said the word “TikTokers,” she covered the side of her face, apparently in an attempt to avoid being heard, before pointing to something behind her.
Fans interpreted her comments as a rejection of TikTokers, and many agreed with her apparent objection to their existence: “Billie shading the internet plague makes me love her even more,” one posted.
“Lol I couldn't act so I cook on TikTok, but I'm with Billy on this one,” one added with a laughing and crying emoji.
Another wrote: “Tiktok users everywhere are like the plague.”
Another wrote: “There are actually some talented TikTokers out there but I wonder why they are called evil.”
“And she's right because TikTokers aren't celebrities and don't belong to award shows. They're cheapening it,” one posted.
Billie took home the award for TV Performance of the Year for her role as cult leader Eva in the miniseries Swarm.
She went up against notable figures like Meryl Streep, Ayo Edebiri and Jon Hamm for the award.
“Wow, that was crazy to see,” Eilish said in her acceptance speech. “It was crazy to see all those names and then my names, and here I am.” This was voted on by fans, and I want to say how grateful, lucky, and privileged I am for that. Thank you very much.'
She praised her collaborators on the project, giving credit to the show's creators, Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, as well as star Dominique Fishback.
“I just want to say thank you to Donald Glover for being my inspiration my whole life and making me the artist I am today,” Eilish began.
“I owe this whole experience to her.” She deserves this more than me. She's amazing, she's beautiful, she's talented, and she should be involved in everything forever.
She concluded her speech by thanking her mother for being her acting coach, and the people for voting for her.
Swarm debuted in the early part of last year, earning Fishback acclaim and an Emmy nomination for her outstanding performance.
The story revolves around an obsessed fan Dre (Fishback) who resorts to extreme murderous methods in order to protect the reputation of her beloved pop star.
Eilish played Eva, a subtly manipulative cult leader within an all-female group who ensnares Dre under the pretext of “female empowerment.”
Billie previously said the series' exploration of toxic fandom resonated with her, as she experienced it as an international pop star in real life.
“This fan passion is so real, and it's so beautiful, but it's also really scary,” she said. diverse in June 2023. “And I think the show is a metaphor for that power — how people are really in this delusional nature of, 'You'll see me and we'll be best friends!'
“Fans are really powerful, and I think they maybe don't realize how powerful they are.”
The Oscar winner revealed that she wanted to try acting even before the opportunity with Swarm arose.
Although her parents, Maggie Bird and Patrick O'Connell, are actors, she initially suppressed her ambition, considering herself “really bad” at it, according to Variety.
It was only after Glover contacted her personally that she reconsidered the role of Eva and took the opportunity to explore acting. Eilish was also nominated for Pop Star of the Year, which went to Taylor Swift.
“Travel junkie. Coffee lover. Incurable social media evangelist. Zombie maven.”
