Gregg Berhalter is set to return as manager of The USA men’s national team, sources told ESPN Thursday night, confirming a report by The Athletic.
Sources said that the deal is nearing completion and will continue until the 2026 World Cup. An official announcement by the American soccer team about Berhalter, who led the United States in the 2022 World Cup, is expected on Friday.
Berhalter, 49, was hired in December 2018 after failing to qualify for that year’s tournament and led the Americans to the last 16 of last year’s World Cup, where they were eliminated with a 3-1 loss to the Netherlands. The United States earned an automatic berth to the 2026 World Cup as co-hosts with Mexico and Canada.
