According to our colleagues France 3, France will rescue Robert Hendy-Fregard. The Brussels Court of Appeal confirmed this Thursday, September 29, the transfer under the European Arrest Warrant issued against the English fraudster.
A challenge to his surrender to French justice
Robert Hendy-Fregaard was prosecuted for knocking down two gendarmes in Cruz during a health inspection of his dog farm in Vidailot in late August. After more than a week on the run, he was arrested near Brussels by Belgian police on September 2. From prison in Brussels, he has fought surrender to a French judge, who is accused of attempted murder against a person holding public power. The investigation was initially conducted by the Guéret public prosecutor’s office, then transferred to the Limoges investigation center.
The 51-year-old Briton was famous for being a fearsome traitor in the 1990s and 2000s. He duped most of his victims by posing as an agent of MI5, the British intelligence service. In total, the fraudster managed to extort almost a million pounds from the victims. Arrested in 2002, he was sentenced to prison for fraud until his release in 2009.
Routes in Cruise
Since 2015 the owner of a house in Vidaylot in Cruz, the English scammer built a dog farm there and installed his then companion Sandra. After years of not hearing from her, her children found her last January, thankfully Document series Netflix is dedicated to Robert Freegard. At the same time, the kennel is subject to an administrative closure and a health inspection at the end of August.
In support of this check, an officer of the Cruz Gendarmerie and a non-commissioned officer were shot down by Robert Frigard when they wanted to check his identity at Vidauillat. They were admitted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Cassation appeal?
Robert Freegaard is likely to appeal the extradition decision to a Belgian court. Otherwise, his transfer to the Limoges prosecutor’s office could take place quickly. The fraudster faces a maximum sentence of thirty years in prison (Article 221-1 of the Penal Code) for attempted murder. The fact that it was attempted on “persons of public authority” is an aggravating circumstance.
