Best Picture nominee “Poor Things” comes to Hulu ahead of the Oscars.
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, and Willem Dafoe, the film is a Frankenstein tale that will arrive on Hulu on March 7. It was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Lead Actress and Director.
The film's synopsis reads: “From director Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the stunning tale and imaginative development of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought to life by the genius and unconventional scientist Dr. Goodwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe).” “Under Baxter's protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she lacks, Bella runs away with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a scheming and lecherous lawyer, on a whirlwind cross-continental adventure. Freed from the prejudices of her time, Bella grows steadfast in her goal of… Defending equality and liberation.
Ruffalo received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and writer Tony McNamara is nominated for Adapted Screenplay. The film was also nominated for awards for original soundtrack, production design, cinematography, make-up and hairstyle, costume design and film editing.
Stone is considered by many critics to be the favorite to win Best Lead Actress, but Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone is also highly regarded as a front-runner. It will be one of the close races at this year's Academy Awards, which take place on March 10.
The film won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy earlier this year, and Stone took home the award for Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
