Aubrey Plaza made sure to pay homage to her Pawnee roots while hosting “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, and she got a little help from her former on-screen boss.
During the live broadcast, “Parks and Recreation” star Amy Poehler was joined by “White Lotus,” who appeared during Plaza’s opening monologue and again for a spot during Weekend Update slide.
Poehler played his bona fide boss Leslie Knope on the hit NBC sitcom that ran from 2009 until 2015. Plaza played April Ludgate, an apathetic associate of Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman).
During the sitcom Weekend Update, Plaza and Poehler came out to urge young people to get government jobs. Poehler, who served as Weekend Update co-anchor alongside Tina Fey during her tenure on SNL in the early 2000s, fired current co-anchor Colin Jost for cracking a news-related joke.
Other surprise guests included President Joe Biden, who participated during the Plaza’s inaugural monologue as a fellow former Delaware resident, and Sharon Stone.
Stone first appeared during musical guest Sam Smith’s second number, “Gloria”, and also appeared in one of the latter’s skits – a film noir parody. Coincidentally, Poehler used to impersonate Stone when she was a cast member on “SNL.”
Saturday Night Live will return with another new episode next weekend, with host Michael B Jordan and musical guest Lil’ Baby.
