The Atlanta Falcons roster has been 90 players since regulatory workouts in May, but after 4 p.m. Tuesday, the number will drop to 53.
Falcons coach Raheem Morris, general manager Terry Fontenot and the rest of Atlanta’s decision-makers conducted 12 practice sessions, three preseason games, two joint practices and one inter-squad game to help guide their decision-making process.
Morris has often referred to the difficulties that come with such roster decisions, realizing that it’s not just releasing a player, it’s also ending a dream.
“When it becomes easy to make decisions about who to keep and who to let go, I’m out of here,” Morris said. “I’m going to walk away when it becomes easy to make that decision because it’s always hard. It’s a people-first mentality. It’s a people-first company. We’re a people-first organization, and I’ll always be that way.”
Atlanta Falcons on SI will update this page when news of new cuts emerges…
The Falcons are still working on roster decisions, with some in the bubble still unsure of their fate two and a half hours before the deadline.
According to Ian Rapoport, Atlanta has decided to cut offensive linemen Julian Davenport and Andrew Stoiber. Davenport in particular had a strong training camp with the Falcons, showing that he belongs in the NFL.
Falcons waive defensive lineman Tommy Togiai According to Aaron WilsonThe defence is arguably the Falcons’ deepest position, and Togiai has fallen foul of a number of players.
Not the Atlanta Falcons, but interesting anyway – the Arizona Cardinals have outrighted former Falcons player Desmond Ridder. According to Ian RapoportReeder was in the running to become Arizona’s second-string quarterback but failed the test.
Back-up Spencer Brown has been added to the list of players who have been cut. According to Greg OmanHe was not expected to be at No. 53, but could be a candidate to join the training squad on Wednesday.
The Falcons are waiving undrafted rookie receiver OJ Hiliare, a Falcons source confirmed to SI. There is no immediate practice squad signing.
