Florida baseball was the first team in the country this season to press its ticket to the World College World Series, and it took advantage of sitting back and watching the rest of the weekend unfold as the teams scrambled to hit their card to Omaha.
While all eight teams are yet to be decided, the Florida Gators do know the other three teams that will join them on their side of the bracket.
Florida Baseball: Welcome to Omaha
As a reminder, the College World Series follows the same format as the regional round. Florida will be in a four-team double-elimination bracket. The only surviving team will face off against the other side of the bracket in a best-of-three tournament series.
Florida will join the following three teams on their side of the bracket:
Florida baseball will open up to Virginia on Friday. The Cavaliers are seventh in the country and ahead of the Super Regional after beating Duke in three games. Virginia fell behind in Game 1 before defeating Duke in Games Two and Three.
The winner of that game will face the winner of TCU vs Oral Roberts.
TCU opened the season with victories over Vanderbilt and Arkansas before embarking on a mid-season portion of the season that included sweeping West Virginia. They’ve won 17 of their last 18, including beating Arkansas in the regional round.
Oral Roberts is the heroic Cinderella. Gator fans will have flashbacks to the Golden Eagles in basketball, beating Florida as the 15th seed in the 2021 tournament. The 2023 Golden Eagles baseball edition was four-seed in the Stillwater Regional but knocked out Oklahoma State before knocking Oregon in the Super Regional. Despite a 51-12 record, the Golden Eagles are only ranked 62nd in the NCAA RPI due to the strength of their schedule.
