Wednesday, Schumer took to Instagram To address the backlash she received over her comments regarding the current ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“What I want is the return of all the hostages,” Schumer wrote, referring to more than 200 hostages kidnapped by Hamas during its attack on October 7.
“I want safety and freedom from Hamas for Palestinians and Israelis. I want safety for the Jewish people and Muslims as well. everyone. just like you. “I want peace,” she posted.
“You will never see me wishing harm on anyone. To say that I am an Islamophobe or that I love genocide is crazy.”
She added that she was criticized for being a “failed” comedian or stealing jokes.
Schumer slammed her critics, saying, “I’m the most successful comedian of all time.” “I’m ugly/fat, sorry you’re not attracted to me,” she wrote in an apparent response to critics who mocked her appearance. “I found someone like that,” she said, referring to her husband, Chris Fisher, 43, a chef whom she married in 2018. I hope you find someone too.”
She added that she wants critics who say she is rich to know that she is “self-made” and that she came from being “dirt poor.” She also added a comment that appeared to distance herself from Sen. Chuck Schumer, saying he was her father’s “second cousin once removed.” “I didn’t meet him until I was 25.”
Schumer explained that she turned on comments on this post, unlike some of her other recent posts, where she wrote “COMMENTS ON” in all caps.
Some celebrities shared their support in the comments, like Kate Hudson, who commented, “Love you Amy,” and Orlando Bloom, who commented with heart emojis.
Other comments were more vitriolic, with commenters writing: “You are focusing on yourself and your parenting feelings while people are dying,” and “You have shared so many anti-Islamic posts in the last few weeks… awful, delusional and narcissistic… you.” “You are just… A hateful person, in this post, made terrorist acts about you.”
Another commenter wrote: “It’s crazy that people, Israelis and Palestinians alike, are being slaughtered so mercilessly and somehow you’ve made yourself a martyr. This may *actually* be the first funny thing you’ve said.”
Some of Schumer’s previous posts about the conflict on social media include a post referencing Martin Luther King Jr., which his daughter corrected.
on monday, Schumer posted a video Martin Luther King Jr.’s statement that Israel “has a right to exist” and that the legendary civil rights leader “will take a stand against anti-Semitism because it is wrong, unjust and evil.”
His daughter, Bernice King, 60, corrected Schumer, posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Amy: Sure, my dad was against anti-Semitism, and so am I.” books.
“He also believed that militarism (along with racism and poverty) was among the interconnected triple evils,” she continued. “I am sure he will call for an end to the Israeli bombing of the Palestinians, the release of the hostages… and for us to work for true peace, which includes justice.”
