AMD unveils X670 Extreme, X670 and B650 chipset for first-generation AM5 motherboards

AMD 600 series chipsets feature PCIe Gen5 and DDR5 support

AMD X670E is the main chipset of the new series of motherboards.

The AMD AM5 infrastructure is based on the new LGA 1718 socket which will natively support CPUs up to 170W. The platform is equipped with 600 series DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen5 memory for storage and graphics (chipset dependent).

AMD has confirmed that the X670E (Extreme) is designed for “unparalleled power and extreme overclocking.” It’s designed to deliver PCIe Gen5 “everywhere”. On the other hand, we have the X670 for the “overclocked enthusiast” with Gen5 storage support and optional graphics. The main platform based on the B650 chipset will support PCIe Gen5 storage only.
