All My Children actress Esta Terblanche has died at the age of 51.
The South African actress died “unexpectedly” on Thursday at her home in North Hollywood, her goddaughter Barbie Ashley said. TMZ Sunday.
Medical staff believe Terblanche had been dead for about a day before she was found, TMZ reported.
Her representative, Lisa Rodrigo, told TMZ that the star’s death is under investigation.
Terblanche gained fame after winning the title of Miss Teen South Africa in 1991.
Her first acting role was as Pinky Node Hartman in the first South African television series, “Egoli: The Place of Gold”, from 1992 to 1995.
In 1997, she landed the role of Gillian Andrassy in the film All My Children.
Gillian is a Hungarian princess. She starts out as a spoiled and arrogant girl and then evolves into a kinder and more compassionate person.
She was killed off the show in 2001.
Terblanche briefly reprised the role in 2011 as a ghost appearing to Ryan Lavery, played by Cameron Matheson. The show ended in 2013.
She talked about her return to the show in an interview with TV series summary It was published one week before the news of her death.
“When I came back, it was very emotional for Cameron and me. When we met, we started crying,” Terblanche said. “At the time, we hadn’t seen each other in years, so it was a very emotional moment for us.”
She stopped acting after her release from All My Children and returned to South Africa.
But in an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Terblanche said she was spending more time in the United States and was ready to return to her Hollywood career.
“It’s definitely something I’d like to go back to,” she said.
Terblanche also spoke about her relationship with Matheson, 54.
“I saw Cameron recently; I was taking care of his beautiful dog Reed, who had cancer, and he was doing everything for him,” she said. “He was supposed to stay one day, but I kept saying he could stay longer, and after five nights he started walking, and it was a really amazing experience.”
“A few months later, Reed passed away, but he got much better during that time, and we had a very special time,” she added.
TerBlanche is involved with the Create Your Breakthrough Foundation to fight cancer in South Africa.
“It’s about helping people with cancer get the treatments they need and helping fight this really terrible disease,” she said in the interview. “I lost my mother to cancer and my father had cancer, too, so I feel very passionate about this.”
“I would be so happy if in this lifetime we could find a cure. That would be a miracle. To see someone go through this in front of your eyes is truly heartbreaking,” she continued.
Terblanche was married to Andre Cook from 1997 until their divorce in 2008.
