TOEFL iBT: The World’s Shortest English Test
Now given in 2 hours (compared to 4 hours previously), the TOEFL iBT is the shortest English test among the world’s most popular language tests. However, ETS Global remains committed to the quality of testing. The system says ” The same importance is given to the quality, safety, fairness and reliability of our English language assessment tests, as well as to the diverse opinions of candidates and experience. “.
What will change for sure? While the TOEFL iBT still measures the 4 skills required for proficiency in English (writing and oral comprehension, written and oral expression), ETS Global explains that it has shortened some of the tests. Here’s what changes have been made to the new TOEFL iBT formula effective July 26, 2023:
- Simple navigation, for a great, intuitive experience.
- All unmarked questions are deleted.
- A new modernized exposure test. It replaces the independent writing expression test where you have to write an essay in English.
- Eliciting a paragraph to read and comment on in the written comprehension section.
- The registration process will also be simplified.
