The internal Xbox meeting continues to generate headlines, as a new report on the event suggests that Microsoft's gaming division is aiming to make an “every screen” Xbox.
The meeting on February 6 apparently saw Xbox bosses Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond addressing staff in the wake of rumors that first-party games like Starfield and Indiana Jones would be going to multiple platforms. now, inverse Bond reportedly told attendees that “every screen is an Xbox,” making the point by showing off the Xbox Game Pass title Palworld on a range of tablets, TVs and mobile devices.
This reflective report comes from journalist Shannon Liao, who wrote that “Bond spoke extensively about Xbox's strategy of being present on multiple types of devices and greater ambitions to become the premier cross-platform gaming company.”
I mention Liao specifically because she wrote about this same meeting in Newsletter last week, where it was then reported that Spencer told employees that Xbox had no plans to exit the console business. This remains to be confirmed in this new report, but it appears that Xbox consoles may become a smaller part of Microsoft's overall gaming strategy. Which, frankly, you probably could have guessed after endeavors like Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The future of Xbox as a console platform has been the subject of endless debate among the gaming community since those cross-platform rumors started circulating last week. Whatever the truth, we'll apparently learn more as part of an Xbox podcast featuring Phil Spencer on February 15.
There is still a lot of Upcoming Xbox Series Let's look forward to it no matter what happens next.
