Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke the 3000m world record that had stood for 28 years at the Silesian Diamond League, while Mondo Duplantis He broke his pole vault record again.

Ingebrigtsen finished the race in a stunning time of 7:15.77 on Sunday, more than three seconds off Kenyan Daniel Komen’s record set in 1996.

The 23-year-old Norwegian won gold in the 5,000m at the Paris Olympics Earlier this month, after finishing a disappointing fourth in an attempt to Defending his 1500m title.

But his run in Poland, which added to his world indoor records in the 2,000m and 1,500m, confirmed his dominance in middle-distance races after he outsprinted Ethiopia’s Berehu Aregawi on the final lap.

“I feel it’s special and amazing,” Ingebrigtsen said, according to Reuters. “I would have loved to challenge the world record here, but based on my training, I can never predict what time I can achieve.”

“I didn’t think I would be able to run 7:17, though. At first, the pace felt really fast, but then I started to feel my way through the race and found a good rhythm.

“The 3,000 metres is a tough distance. After four or five laps you feel the lactic acid, but you have to move. The conditions were tough because of the heat today, but it’s the same for everyone.”

Meanwhile, Duplantis broke the pole vault world record for the 10th time in his career, just weeks after winning his second Olympic gold medal and setting his ninth world record.

He successfully achieved his final height of 6.26 metres, one centimetre more than his record in Paris, on his second attempt, with his legs touching the bar as he passed over it.

“I focused on the Olympics this year and the record came naturally because I was in good shape. So I was not surprised by the record today, but I am grateful,” said the Swede.

Duplantis competes in the pole vault at the Silesian Diamond League.

In Silesia, Duplantis’ closest competitor was American Sam Kendricks, who came in second by six metres.

Both Ingebrigtsen and Duplantis’ world records are subject to ratification by the IAAF.
