LAX Automated People Mover Train Project Delayed Again – NBC Los Angeles

Travelers will have to continue to endure traffic around the loop at Los Angeles International Airport for a little while longer.

new prediction It is estimated that ongoing construction work to build the LAX Automated People Mover will not be completed until October 30, 2025.

Fitch Ratings lowered the project's bond rating, citing “increasing delays in completion.”

While the credit agency did not anticipate any financing problems, the report also blamed “various disagreements and disputes between the parties” for the downgrade.

The 2.25-mile People's Automation, which was commissioned more than 5 years ago, was supposed to be completed this year.

This is not the first time that the completion of the project has been postponed. The driverless train was scheduled to be ready in 2023, but the completion date has been postponed to this year.

The project is said to be more than 96% complete.

In 2018, the Los Angeles City Council approved a $4.9 billion contract with LAX Integrated Express Solutions to design and build an Automated People Mover system that will shuttle passengers between stations and connect to nearby rail lines.

According to Los Angeles World Airports, the city agency that manages the airport, the People Mover will have trains traveling between six stations — three inside the airport loop and three outside the airport.

The system is expected to connect with the Metro Green and Crenshaw/LAX light rail lines, as well as with the planned Consolidated Rent-A-Car Center that aims to bring together more than 20 rental car offices in one location. Officials said the facility will eliminate the need to rent courtesy cars to enter the central terminal area and reduce the number of cars driving in and out of the airport by an estimated 3,200 cars per day.
