Since the beginning of the school year, Patricia Migne has hosted this English conversation for the “active” audience (after work) on Mondays from 6:15pm to 8:15pm and on Tuesdays from 9am to 11am and 11pm. For retirees, from 1 am to 1 pm, in the premises of the Association, at 18, rue de Lestaing.

“These are English conversation workshops, oral exchanges around a theme. It is a question of dialogue in plural voices with respect for each speaker. It's an open, interactive discussion, no subject is off-limits,” explains Patricia Meigne, coach-mediator at Saint-Michel High School. He prepares CPF files for adults and he offers private courses both in person and remotely.

Not education

As for how the conversation workshops work, Patricia Migne announces a week in advance if some people want to think about the theme, then on the big day she provides essential vocabulary and asks countless questions to get ideas flowing. For example, the theme of food can lead to discussions about restaurant menus, favorite foods, allergies, recipes, food waste, eating disorders, diets, the food industry, and world hunger.

There are so many distractions that this is not a problem, on the contrary. Each session starts with what people have been up to in the past week, so the initial discussion can cover any topic. This is not an academic course. “I am a teacher and a helper, because I respond to each statement and restart the discussion, if necessary, correct the pronunciation, a word, a grammatical point or the conjunction of a period. At any time, in an ideal, caring and respectful situation, a learner can clarify a difficult point. »
