Gigabyte expects the Radeon RX 7600 XT to debut with 16GB of memory
Not 10 or 12, but 16 GB.
In contrast to the EEC leak that pointed to PowerColor's Radeon RX 7600 XT GPU with a 10/12GB memory configuration, Gigabyte has provided updated information suggesting a different scenario. Gigabyte's Eurasian Economic Commission regulatory filings list at least two models, both of which feature 16GB of memory:
- Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming OC 16GB GV-R76XTGAMING OC-16GD
- Radeon RX 7600 XT Gaming 16GB GV-R76XTGAMING-16GD
Despite the initial surprise, the XT model has twice the memory compared to the RX 7600. The 16GB configuration is becoming more popular in this segment, as demonstrated by NVIDIA's 16GB RTX 4060 Ti, which has gained popularity among board partners, but not among gamers truly.
It should be noted that the NVIDIA SKU has limitations regarding the memory bus (128-bit) and 8 PCIe Express lanes. Conversely, the RX 7600 XT may not have these issues. If AMD chooses Navi 32 GPU (otherwise limited to 2048 cores), it opens up more bandwidth with a wide (256-bit) memory bus and a full 16-lane PCIe interface. While AMD could choose a 128-bit bus to differentiate the product and avoid impacting sales of the RX 7700 XT, a 16GB 256-bit configuration in the $400-300 price range could be very successful.
Rumors indicate that AMD is planning to launch the Radeon RX 7600 XT in late January, likely placing it between the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and RTX 4080 SUPER that will launch around January 24. Although this launch date is unconfirmed and subject to change, it will mark the first confirmation of the new memory configuration for the RX 7600 XT.
