After launching the Onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box earlier this year, Walmart is back with a cheaper version for just $14.88. the Google TV HD streaming device (Attractive) It has lower video quality (1080p) and less RAM than its boxy sibling, but since it costs less than a month’s worth of Netflix, it could be a good option for giving a smart touch to your guest room TV.
Basically, a cheaper version of Google’s $30 Chromecast with Google TV HD (which currently works Selling for $19), the Onn Stick runs the same software as Google TV and comes with a Bluetooth remote that’s capable of voice calling and calling up Google Assistant. It’s available starting today at Walmart.com.
Simply connect an HDMI device to the back of your TV and access streaming services like Netflix, YouTube TV, ESPN, and Max. It also has Chromecast built-in so you can cast photos, videos, and music to your TV.
The specifications are basic but similar to Google’s HD Stick: Full HD (1080p) resolution, stereo sound, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. It comes with a remote control, HDMI cable, Micro USB power adapter and plug.
Onn is Walmart’s television, electronics and interior accessories brand. the edgeOnn’s Chris Welch reviewed the Google TV 4K Streaming Box in May and called it the best $20 deal in streaming.
The new, cheaper version of the stick has lower specifications but uses the same remote, with dedicated buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Disney Plus, Paramount Plus and Google Assistant. The $20 box has 2GB of RAM and 4K streaming which is more comparable to Google’s $50 Chromecast 4K.
For $15 with voice control and access to the Google TV platform, Onn’s new stick may look compelling. But that $20 step up with 4K resolution and more memory is so small, it’s hard to justify saving $5 for this gadget.
