Every week, DL brings you a commercial. Today, the venue is Boukie’s Bookshop located on rue Taillefer. David Bouglas and his wife Quiteri run a bookshop and tearoom space in English.
How long have you been based on Rue Taillefer?
We opened in July 2022. We were previously in Bordeaux, where I was also a bookseller. I’m originally from Brooklyn and in 2012, I packed my bag and walked across France with Paris-Bordeaux! Since I graduated in philosophy, I turned to books.
Why did you choose this location?
Everything happened after covid. We are fed up with Bordeaux. We came to Perigueux and we loved the town. I love this place. Besides, seeing an American set up a bookstore in an old armory is laughable.
We are a bookstore with over 3,000 reference books, new or used. We have a tea room and although our space is small, we organize co-working sessions, concerts and English and Italian classes.
What is your primary product?
Since we are a bookstore we can think about books, but I will highlight our cafes. They are all locally roasted. Four are in Périgueux and two in Bordeaux. We also serve local teas.
What are your plans?
We would like to obtain a license 4 to serve American or local beers. As well as mulled wine. These are the things we demand. We have a lot more plans, but it’s too late to talk about them yet (laughs).
Boukie’s Bookshop, 32 rue Taillefer, is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 7pm. Closed on Mondays. Tel: 05 47 14 32 31. Email: [email protected]. Website: https://www.boukiesbookshop.com/
