LANDOVER, Md. — Washington Commanders and New York Giants cornerback Cordell Float’s Curtis Samuel was ejected after a shoving match on the sideline following a Commanders’ touchdown late in the first half.
Quarterback Sam Howell was thrown to the ground at the end of an 8-yard run. The Washington players didn’t seem to like the way the play ended. Samuel and Flute were right behind the play and a shoving match ensued, prompting the officials to throw flags. No punches were thrown.
Float was working as a staging post in New York. He will likely be replaced by Damai Holmes. Receiver Byron Pringle will likely replace Samuel, who entered the game third on the team with 38 receptions. He caught one pass for 5 yards in the first half.
With 1:30 remaining in the first half, Howell raced up the middle and was hit by three different defenders as he crossed the goal line. But because of uncertainty about whether Howell had succeeded, he kept bouncing to the left. Safety Xavier pushed McKinney Howell out of bounds and dropped him to the ground. Howell was evaluated for a concussion and returned for the following series.
Washington lost backup defensive end Effie Obada earlier in the game to a leg injury. He was carted off the field in the first quarter.
