“I don’t like 80% of English referees”, De Serpy’s blunt comment after draw against Sheffield United

Brighton coach Roberto De Serpi has condemned the behavior of Premier League referees this Sunday, following his side’s 1-1 draw against Sheffield United. The Italian showed his lack of understanding of the decisions VAR could make.

From September 2022 – Roberto de Jerpi has been working alongside the English referees every weekend. The experience doesn’t really seem to please the Italian coach, as he promised this Sunday after Brighton’s draw (1-1) against Sheffield United. After the game, the technician scolded the referee in the Premier League.

The Seagulls had Simon Adingra (6th) open the scoring, Mahmoud Dahoud was sent off in the 69th minute and Adam Webster (74th) equalized with an own goal. For his part, Roberto de Gerbi received a yellow card for his agitation at the sidelines.

Roberto De Zerbi admitted that Dahoud’s red was logical under the current rules, but he still regretted the decision. In a laconic manner, he criticized the officials: “I am honest and clear: 80% do not like the English referees,” declared the coach at a press conference. “It’s nothing new. I don’t like them. I don’t like their behavior on the pitch.”

Roberto De Serpi took the opportunity to point out the most frequent video referee in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta, for example, has also suffered strongly in recent days. “England is the only country with VAR and you don’t know if the decision is correct. In other countries you have to be 100% sure. In England I couldn’t understand it.”

With this third draw, Brighton are in eighth place with 19 points. In the league, Roberto de Jerpi’s side have not won since September 24. After the international break, the Seagulls travel to Nottingham Forest on November 25.

In the same group as OM in the Europa League, Brighton will challenge the Phocians at home on December 14 for the last match of the group stage.
