Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a right wrist injury during a 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. Here’s what you need to know:
- Burrow appeared to be in pain after throwing a touchdown pass to running back Joe Mixon in the second quarter.
- He went to the medical tent after the game and then tried to throw passes on the sideline but was unable to do so.
- As he ran to the locker room, Amazon’s Kylie Hartung reported that Burrow couldn’t “catch the ball and couldn’t lift his elbow.”
- Burrow was 11 of 17 passing for 101 yards and a score before leaving the game. He was replaced by backup quarterback Jake Browning, who completed 8 of 14 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.
What does it mean to lose a boro
The worst-case scenario unfolds for Bengal. As long as they have Burrow they have a chance, and the speed with which Burrow caught him with his right hand after the touchdown pass to Mixon was a bad sign. It got worse when he tried to throw down the sideline twice and was unable to do so, instead crouching down in pain after the attempt.
Burrow has struggled with injuries all year, and now he’s finally recovered his calf, which is the last thing he or Cincinnati needs to enter a critical stretch of the season with back-to-back games in the AFC North. — Paul Dehner Jr., Bengals beat writer
What to expect from Browning
Browning won the backup quarterback job over Trevor Siemian in training camp, but it wasn’t pretty in the long run. The Bengals would love to develop Browning, a former undrafted free agent out of Washington.
However, he has never played in a regular season game, and the idea of throwing him into the fire at this spot is a far cry from what Cincinnati could be prepared for. Browning has good mobility and this could be a trait Zac Taylor tends to lean toward. – Dehner
