League players are divided on whether Nexus Blitz should be the right mode to return given how long Twisted Treeline and Dominion have been on the bench.
In the early days of League of Legends, game modes other than Summoner’s Rift were very popular. Even in the days before ARAM, Dominion and Twisted Treeline reigned supreme as alternative game modes in which players were seriously invested.
These modes have different gameplay features, meta characteristics, and even item choices compared to the base game. Twisted Treeline has had a particularly long tenure, with the map seeing a complete rework and an extended period on the League of Legends client.

While the Arena mode was well received and some players were excited to get their hands on Nexus Blitz, others lamented that League’s game mode offering had been significantly reduced over the years and that the Classic modes were not being revisited now that Nexus Blitz returns.
League players want Twisted Treeline and Dominion back
Dominion was removed from League of Legends nearly a decade ago.
League of Legends has been around for a long time in the grand scheme of multiplayer live service titles. In the modern gaming era where live service games can cost a dime and fail within a few months of release, LoL has truly stood the test of time.

However, its longevity has been partly a result of the game’s constant, relentless evolution, seeking new ways to hold on to its audience while trying to attract new players.
The result of this constant evolution has been to leave many old styles, elements and mechanics behind. And while the return of Nexus Blitz is something players are looking forward to, some can’t help but feel like it’s a missed opportunity.

Players in this thread He lamented the lack of permanent modes that could provide a shorter experience than committing to a full match on Summoner’s Rift but didn’t like the random nature of ARAM.

“I love Nexus Blitz, and it’s sad that it didn’t become as permanent as they said it would be. Perfect mode for short playtimes like Aram, but with the ability to choose your hero. A niche that is sorely missing in the league,” one Reddit user claimed. This led to many sharing that Dominion and Twisted Treeline were modes they liked for the same reason.

Coincidentally, there’s another conversation going on A different angle of the League subreddit, one of them argues, is that many modern league players likely have no idea about either of these older modes. Or, even if they knew these game modes, they would never be able to play them.
Although Nexus Blitz may be a breath of fresh air, many wish it were Twisted Treeline or Dominion instead.
“Just the mention of the crooked tree line makes my heart happy and sad at the same time. Isn’t that something.” said one sad Redditor.

These modes have a dedicated base of players who are bummed that they haven’t been able to play them for years. Other than wanting to relive the glory days themselves, they also want new players to be able to experience things like fighting Vilemaw in Twisted Treeline or controlling points in Dominion.
After all, it’s a small miracle that Nexus Blitz has returned given the circumstances surrounding the mode and the fact that the developers weren’t confident in their ability to bring it back.

While it’s great that Riot has invested time and resources into new limited-time game modes to bring variety to League of Legends, it seems that many want to see what the old modes will look like in modern League of Legends.
