Last year, development of the KOTOR remake was paused indefinitely following disappointment with progress on the highly anticipated RPG. The demo created by Texas-based studio Aspyr apparently failed to impress when shown to Lucasfilm and Sony, leading to development being put on hold. The remake’s art director Brad Prince and design director Jason Minor subsequently left the project.
The KOTOR remake was then ported from Aspyr to World War Z and Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive. Both studios are owned by parent company Embracer, which is currently shuttering studios, canceling games and laying off staff amid a punishing restructuring.
Aspyr worked on the KOTOR remake for three years before it was finally announced at Sony’s PlayStation 2021 showcase, where the original voice actor was revealed. Jennifer Hale will be back Like Bastila Shan.
At the time, it was scheduled to be released as a PC and PlayStation 5 console exclusive and was described as a complete remake developed from the ground up. Knights of the Old Republic was originally developed by BioWare, and has always been considered one of the Best Star Wars video games And Western RPGs.
According to reports, Aspyr was targeting a release date for the remake of late 2022, but insiders suggested that 2025 was a more realistic target. It is now unclear how this project will continue. IGN has asked Sony and Embracer for comment.
