State police respond to the alleged crime in the air during the flight to Boston

Massachusetts State Police responded Saturday morning to a crime — of sorts — that allegedly occurred on a flight to Boston from Charlotte, North Carolina.

State police were notified of a “possible criminal act” on US Airways Flight 1441 at around 10 a.m., according to the agency.

state soldiers Investigators met the plane upon its arrival and began an investigation, which determined that the possible crime occurred mid-flight.

“Potential mid-flight offenses are within federal jurisdiction, and federal authorities have therefore asserted jurisdiction over this matter,” Dave Procopio, a spokesman for the agency, said in an emailed statement Saturday.

It was not immediately clear what happened, who was involved, or if the suspect had been arrested.

“The crew reported a potential security issue after landing,” a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration read.

The Airbus A321 left Charlotte Douglas International Airport before landing around 10 a.m. in Logan, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The agency has referred additional questions to the airline and local authorities.

American Airlines confirmed that law enforcement responded to the flight upon its arrival.

“We take this matter very seriously and are cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities in their investigations, as safety and security are our highest priorities,” an American Airlines spokesperson said in a statement.

The case has been referred to the FBI and the US Attorney General, according to MSP. In his previous statement, Procopio said MSP would have no further comment, citing the issue of jurisdiction.

Kristen Cetera, an FBI spokeswoman in Boston, confirmed that the FBI also responded but declined to comment.
