White Sox General Manager Chris Getz Reveals Pedro Grifoll’s Career Status – NBC Sports Chicago

Newly appointed Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz has confirmed that Pedro Grifoll will return to manage the team in 2024.

“Pedro will be back next year,” Getz told reporters Thursday at his introductory press conference.

“I think it’s important to provide stability for our players. There’s been a lot of changes in the last couple of years, and certainly here recently, and I think we need to get back to playing baseball, focusing on baseball, so when these guys come out every day they can just focus on the game.” And not on the leaders of the organization.”

Indeed, Getz said his first order of business as chief front office executive would be to sit down with Grifoll to discuss the state of the club and assess the coaching staff.

Grifoll previously acknowledged his job was on the hot seat earlier this month after the firings of general manager Rick Hahn and executive vice president Ken Williams. In his view, his status within the organization was questionable since the people who had hired him had been relieved of their duties.

“Everyone is evaluated,” Grifoll said on August 22. “I look at myself one hundred percent. But I’ve done it from the start. I ask the people around me and I’m not afraid to listen to people telling me ‘You could have thought of this another way. ‘” I’m not afraid to be evaluated and for people to share different ways of doing it.”

Hired prior to the start of the season, Grifoll was previously the bench coach for the Kansas City Royals.

The White Sox are 53-81 under Grifol so far and currently sit in fourth place in the Central Division standings, 16 games out of the playoffs.
