Let’s just say we’re glad he stuck to the music.
Back in 2010, when a young Justin Bieber was at the beginning of his blossoming career, everyone wanted a piece of his success. With an army of fans devoted to everything their star did, every project Bieber took part in was guaranteed to be a commercial success.
No wonder the singer-songwriter decided to try acting. As a teenager, Bieber was still on the fence about his future career, and should his passion for music wane, it would be nice if he had a second plan. However, his choice of offer to join him was initially questionable.
You can see the appeal of a Disney show for a young teen with a lot of fans his own age, or The CW’s young adult show. However, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was a very unexpected choice, and was not suitable for Pepper’s main audience. Perhaps the star was so fascinated by the role he had to play as a serial killer and bomber named Jason McCann.
No doubt it was a great learning experience for Bieber, but the show suffered a bit because of the risks they took. Bieber’s acting wasn’t quite as good as that of his backstage colleagues, and his character’s intriguing nature got lost behind the poor performance. McCann appeared in two episodes of the show’s eleventh season and was killed on screen.
Both episodes starring Bieber received very mixed reviews, with some saying the show should have stuck with a regular cast who didn’t lack the creepy killer presence of the musician, and others praising it for improving on the second episode.
Either way, it wasn’t the smash hit we could have imagined the show’s executives had hoped for.
Unfortunately, Jason McCann’s brutal murder scene was taken out of context and used to fuel the hatred of Justin Bieber. Given that the singer and his character were both teenagers at the time, the internet once again took the opportunity to prove its lack of morals.
If you want to check out Justin Bieber’s episodes of CSI for yourself, you can stream the show on Hulu, Paramount Plus, or Amazon Prime Video.
