We often find ourselves wondering about a lot of things The Legend of Zelda franchise, and more specifically, its main protagonist, Link. Which link is the strongest? What does he do in his spare time? Just how long does he really sleep?
However, what we haven’t really thought about is which link is probably the stinkiest. We’re sure no version of Link smells quite perfect — consider the grueling workout he puts himself into every game, for example — but what’s the absolute stink? This honestly lost us.
after TikToker I decided to arrange the links according to their stink, however, Wired I decide to interrogate longtime producer Eiji Onuma and Kingdom director Hidemaro Fujibayashi which Link is the smelliest. Aonuma, perhaps predictably, went with Link from Breath of the Wild (and presumably, Tears of the Kingdom), noting that the barbarian shield, in particular, would create some rather unpleasant odors.
However, Fujibayashi went with Link from Twilight Princess, noting that Link not only digs up dirt and runs through dungeons as a wolf, but also spends a great deal of time dealing with the Goron tribe (quiet back there!):
“There are a few scenes in Twilight Princess where Link is involved in sumo wrestling with the Goron tribe. I imagine he stinks in that situation.”
At least we can tick this off the list of things to ask Ohuma and Fujibayashi in the future, anyway. Maybe we can think of something else in the meantime. Like where are all the toilets in the skyloft?
