Even while accepting his Golden Globe Award Dynamic performance like Elvis Presley in the movie of the same name, Austin Butler just couldn’t bring down the Mississippi Queen.
The California-born actor won best actor in a motion picture, a drama, at the ceremony on Tuesday for his portrayal of Presley from adolescence to his untimely death at the age of 42. Butler delivered his speech in the same Southern style he used in the movie “Elvis,” which he hasn’t been able to drop since filming.
“My son, my son!” he said with a smile. “All my words leave me.”
It came as no surprise to those of you who’ve followed the awards season journey to hear that familiar tune. he Tell ET last year and he even started asking people if he always spoke like Presley.
“When you’ve been living with something for two years, and doing nothing else, I guess you can’t help it,” Butler told ET. “It becomes the fabric of your being.”
His obsession with the role is now legend: he to the Los Angeles Times His devotion to “Elvis” could be seen as “unhealthy”, but he willingly gave himself up to the late performer and his legacy.
“I can prepare each day and then sit with my feelings and ask myself what feels right to me, where will my obsession lead me today?” Butler told the publication last year. “It started to be more of a relationship with Elvis.”
Back at The Globes, Butler concluded his acceptance speech in true fan fashion, with a nod to King himself: “You were an icon and a rebel, and I love you so much!” Butler shouted, pointing to the sky. “You remember, and I will never forget you!”
