Welcome,
In my last blog, in February, I talked about the following blog Dragon Age The game is entering production. Well, we’ve come a long way since then and the team is incredibly happy to announce a huge step forward in developing the game you know now. Dragon Age: Dred Wolf: We have just completed the alpha stage!
Up until this point we’ve been working hard on different parts of the game, but it wasn’t until we hit the alpha stage that every game was bundled together. Now, for the first time, we can experience the entire game, from the opening scenes of the first mission to the end. We can see, hear, feel and play everything as a coherent experience.
What now?
Of course, the game is not over by any means, but Alpha is one of the highlights of game development for a number of reasons. First and foremost, we can now set our sights on bringing visual fidelity to its final form and redundancy in gameplay features. The big question now is, “Where do we focus our efforts?” To answer this, we seek feedback from a number of sources, including our Community Board members who have unique perspectives and experiences, our QA team, and extensive internal play testing. Collecting feedback from multiple sources gives us the best view of where we need to spend more time improving the experience.
In addition, we can now assess the pace of the game, how relationships develop over time, player development, as well as narrative cohesion – essentially how the story fits together. We can take the story we’ve written and see if we’re expressing it well through the characters, dialogue, cinematics, and ultimately the player’s journey. Now that we have the ability to do full play, we can iterate and refine the things that are most important to our fans.
Hitting Alpha was the culmination of a great effort from the entire team and we used this achievement as an opportunity to come together and celebrate. We held a hybrid event with people on site while others joined remotely and the team pitched their work to everyone at BioWare. We even took some time to do something fun and not work related – a virtual escape room where we had to work together to help someone on camera find their way out. It was a really great time, and no matter where our developers are, it’s important to share these kinds of moments together.
The beginning to the end
Now that we are finally able to experience the entire game, for me, my favorite part is the characters. Whether they are followers, allies, or villains, they have been incorporated into the game in ways that take on a concept that has always been a part of Dragon Age DNA – stories about people – and pushing it further than ever before. The characters help frame the world and the dangers, and I can’t wait to be able to start discussing them in depth.
It’s also exciting to finally be able to bring our fans to parts of the world we’ve alluded to previously, but haven’t been able to fully explore – like the city of Minerathos, the capital of the Teventer Empire. We’ve talked about Minrathous in previous games, and now you’ll finally be able to visit it! It’s a city built on and nurtured by magic, the ways in which this has manifested in its visual identity, and how does that look compared to the previous cities we’ve visited Dragon AgeVery amazing.
As I mentioned earlier, the Alpha milestone is very important to us, but there is more work to be done. We also want to continue to be transparent with you and our community and to keep you updated on what we are up to editing. We hope you enjoyed our development updates at Dredolph This year as we look forward to sharing more in the future.
in conclusion
naturally, Dredolph It’s not the only thing going on here at BioWare! We have a team that works hard to visualize what the future holds for a new single player mass effect Game. We look forward to celebrating our community on N7 next month. The Star Wars The Old Republic The team is also continuing to work on the next update, so stay tuned SWTOR.com and their social media accounts for any and all details regarding the upcoming game update.
It’s a great time at BioWare! We have a lot of great things to show you in the future. Until then, thanks for being a part of our community. We can’t do this without you.
