A bus carrying worshipers attending an Easter celebration fell off a bridge and caught fire in South Africa on Thursday, killing 45 people.
An 8-year-old girl was the only survivor. She was seriously injured but is receiving medical treatment.
The accident occurred in the northern Limpopo province when the bus hit a barrier and fell from a bridge on the Mamatlakala mountain pass, about 200 miles north of Johannesburg. He fell more than 150 feet into a ravine and caught fire.
The Limpopo Provincial Government said Many of the bodies were burned beyond recognition, but efforts to recover them were continuing.
Officials said the bus was likely heading from neighboring Botswana to Moria, a popular destination for Easter celebrations that usually attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims.
Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikonga He added that the cause of the accident is under investigation, but it appears that the driver lost control of the car.
Chikunga said the government would work to return the bodies
South Africa, which suffers from poor road safety conditions, is witnessing an increase in traffic deaths during the Easter holiday period. More than 200 people died in traffic accidents during the Easter holiday last year.
