A new video shot in front of BMW UK headquarters allows us to take a closer look at the 2024 BMW X5 M and X6 M, which are now available strictly as competition models. Youtube Archie Hamilton He photographed the dynamic duo in Farnborough, Hampshire where pre-production models are on temporary display, flaunting their shiny new colours. Well, the paints are fresh to the X5/X6 lineup as other models have been offered for some time in Isle of Man Green and Brooklyn Grey.
The biggest changes made by Life Cycle Impulse are up front where the kidney grille is now all black and has horizontal slats along with a matte surround. The badges have a slightly larger letter/number combination compared to pre-LCI models, and will likely set them apart better from the X5 M60i and X6 M60i as those two now have the M badge on the front.
We’re not done with the changes at the front because the headlights are also new on the revised models. Aside from their darker color (Shadowline in BMW vocabulary), the redesigned matrix LED lights are 35 millimeters (about an inch and a half) narrower. In addition, the gloss black accents extending from the bottom of the grille all the way to the bumper create an X-shaped element.
The changes are less noticeable on the rear, though it won’t be long before you notice that both the X5 M and X6 M have new LED graphics with an “X” theme. Additionally, the 617-horsepower SUV has vertical deflectors integrated lower into the rear apron, though it’s easy to miss. The quad exhaust tips measure 100mm in diameter and come in a black chrome finish.
The tour video focuses on how the cars have changed on the outside but we all know there’s a big update on the inside. By moving the high-powered SUV to the latest infotainment system, BMW has reduced the number of physical controls on the center console. In addition, the air vents in the middle are now slimmer to make room for the enlarged touchscreen, which now measures 14.9 inches in diagonal. On the passenger side of the dashboard is a neat illuminated M graphic shared with the X7 M60i.
A proper year is set to debut in the second half of next week in Florida at the Concours d’Elegance, Amelia Island. Series production begins in April at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, so first deliveries to customers are expected this summer.
