|Over 500 magazine professionals celebrated the best in their industry at the first joint 2011 Excellence Awards event featuring Publishers Australia and the Magazine Publishers of Australia member titles in Sydney last Friday. The awards capped off the magazine week two day conference.
PA Chairman Geoff Hird called for one united voice from all sections of the industry to promote the power and health of the magazine, in all its current shapes and forms.
"We have a powerful, evolving product, fantastically talented and innovative people, and we continue to deeply engage audiences - we just need to do a better job of taking this to market, and it makes sense to do it with one voice, rather than two".
marie claire won the premier 2011 Excellence Award, which is chosen from the five main category winners. Pacific Magazines' marie claire also won Consumer Magazine of the Year (over 50k circ). Editor Jackie Frank accepted the top award and was joined on stage by Pacific CEO and MPA Chairman, Nick Chan.
The other main category winners were: foodService (B2B), Mumbrella (website), QANTAS - The Australian Way (custom), and Vogue Living (consumer under 50k circ).
The 2011 Awards saw the introduction of two new categories with the Best App going to Fitness First magazine and Association Mag of the Year going to INTHEBLACK.
Held for the first time as a gala evening event, the Excellence Awards attracted 500 guests and marked the close of the inaugural Magazine Week which included a very successful two day industry conference featuring 75 local in international speakers and panellists.
From a pool of over 300 entries, a panel of judges from across key magazine disciplines, chaired by Fusion Strategy MD Steve Allen, nominated 100 finalists and the 29 resulting winners.
Publishers Australia chairman Geoff Hird added, "We are delighted to congratulate the high calibre winners, runners up and finalists of the 2011 awards."
