Publisher Investigates Website Breach

22 Jun 2010

A Spanish language website, youkioske.com, has made available for download on their site full copies of many international magazines, as reported by FIPP. The website does not appear to have the permission of the publishers whose titles are being displayed, and is thus disregarding copyright laws.

The site, mygazines.com, attempted something similar two years ago, and the threat of legal action from many National Associations and individual publishing companies eventually led to this illegal activity being stopped.

FIPP is urging its members to verify if their titles are being copied illegally by youkioske.com and to take the appropriate legal action.

UK magazine association PPA and Hearst in the US are already investigating whether an international website is making available full copies of many international magazines for downloading through their site.
