Odysseus Publishing will launch Shape into the health and fitness magazine market early next year, to sit between Prevention and Women's Health magazines.
Shape will launch in early 2010 with a cover price of $6.95, and will be published by Odysseus under licence from American Media Incorporated (AMI), the second title to launch through the partnership following Men's Fitness.
Shape will cover fitness, health, relationships, nutrition, adventure and fashion and is aimed at active women. Todd Cole, Odysseus director and executive editor of Shape said the US title had an average reader age of 31, with a similar target in Australia.
Cole told AdNews, while Pacific Magazines title Prevention was aimed at women aged 40+, and fellow Pacific title Women's Health was aimed at audiences in their 20's, Shape would sit somewhere in between.
Odysseus will make a "significant" investment in the launch of Shape, Cole stated, however the publisher was likely to keep advertising and media duties for a launch campaign in house, as it did for the launch of Men's Fitness.
Shape will launch as a bi-monthly title and will have an initial print run of 50,000. "As circulation and revenue build, we'll go monthly," said Cole, estimating this would take between six and 12 months.
Cole told AdNews that an editor would be announced in three to four weeks and that they were "very much in recruitment mode."
